What is a typical day like for you?

My main responsibility is to manage the organization’s public relations and external communications. My role involves creating original long-form content and staying up-to-date with workforce development in San Diego.

At the beginning of a typical workday, my routine involves researching press mentions and Google alerts related to workforce development, the economy, and the job market. I need to be constantly aware of emerging trends in the job market and develop creative ways to showcase our impact and innovation in the industry.

It’s also essential to stay informed about each department’s initiatives, new funding opportunities, and any significant advancements in our services that could become a news story. These factors play a considerable role in developing our editorial and PR strategy.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

When I’m not working, my favorite thing to do is relax. I am a huge introvert and love to spend time at home refreshing my social battery. As someone involved in media, it’s no surprise that I love being immersed in all media, whether video, news articles, social media, podcasts, or film/television. As a transplant from the Bay Area, I frequently travel up north to visit family and friends. I aim to expand my travels beyond my usual trips.

What do you like best about working in workforce development?

Before I started working in workforce development, I had no idea just how much it entailed. Workforce development influences every aspect of our lives, from our first job to the local economy. I love discovering how we collaborate with public and private entities to develop initiatives that support people, provide job opportunities, and create career pathways. Our programs and services create jobs that significantly impact our economy and help to address various issues affecting different populations. By understanding how people navigate the workforce, we can create strategies designed to support them effectively.
