Staff Profile: Meet David Hastings

David Hastings is an Accounts Payable Specialist at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. Here he tells a little bit about himself, both personally and professionally. 

What is a typical day like for you?

My job duties include paying the bills for the company and working with staff to make sure their purchase orders, travel reimbursements and other forms are filled out and submitted correctly. Typically, I am processing approximately 25–100 invoices per week—it keeps me busy!

What do you like best about working in workforce development?

The best thing I like about working in workforce development is that I’m playing a small part in helping job seekers in our community, even though I’m more of a support person—I’ve worked in finance as an accounts payable specialist for the past 10 years.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

As my colleagues know, I am the person around the office who wears a Hawaiian shirt almost every day. I even have a Facebook Hawaiian shirt page that I’ve created. I’m an avid Yelp reviewer (Yelp Elite) and love to try out new places to eat. I’ve posted over 600 reviews, over 900 photos and have close to 300 friends and followers. So, a lot of times people are asking me where I’m going to eat for lunch. A cool fact—I was a lookalike performer and DJ who was one part of the Blues Brothers. I played the part of Jake Blues and did the singing along with my friend Mike whom I’ve known since high school. We’ve played for parties, weddings, grand openings, street fairs and performed at the House of Blues, San Diego County Fair and have been on TV (Inside Edition, ESPN performing as the Blues Brothers in the Carlsbad Marathon and we were even in a TV commercial).
