The job search process can be overwhelming for anyone. With countless job opportunities available in the San Diego region, it can be hard to know which one is right for you. That’s where the San Diego Workforce Partnership’s (SDWP) career portal comes in.

The career portal was just launched for CONNECT2Careers (C2C)—an SDWP program designed for San Diego County job seekers ages 16-24, which provides guided job search support and access to a database of prescreened, quality job opportunities. C2C also works with local governments like the City of San Diego and private companies like Watkins Wellness to coordinate unique paid training and internship opportunities that allow young job seekers with little work experience to jump start their careers.

Since 2015, C2C has utilized an online portal to empower job seekers to find those opportunities on their own, without waiting to hear back from a case manager. In a few short years, the program quickly scaled beyond what its foundational system could support, so in mid-June, the career portal got a major upgrade.

The new system includes advanced features that will allow SDWP and C2C to serve job seekers better than ever before. These features include:

  • A mobile-first design: Job seekers now have the same quality of experience on their smartphones and tablets as they do on a desktop computer
  • System-wide searches: Job seekers can search for job opportunities, job fairs and hiring events and training opportunities all on the same page
  • Customized program suggestions: job seekers who complete C2C’s eligibility survey can complete one application to determine their eligibility for all of C2C’s training and internship programs, like This Way Ahead and the County of San Diego Opportunity Youth Internship program

C2C’s goal for this year is more ambitious than ever before. In 2018, C2C plans to place San Diego’s young people in 3,000 jobs and paid internships, with the upgraded career portal being a key part of making it happen. The career portal leverages technology as a service to offer job seekers easier, more convenient access to jobs and job search resources any time they need them. Upgraded tech also means freeing up the people power of C2C’s peer job coaches—other 16–24 year-olds who assist peers with their job search—to spend more time on impactful 1-on-1 connections.

Young adults—to try out the upgraded system for yourself, log in or sign up.
