SAN DIEGO, CA — Together with the Aspen Institute’s Economic Opportunities Program and Reimagine Retail Initiative, the San Diego Workforce Partnership and the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce undertook a year-long research project to understand possible social, economic and regulatory forces acting on the retail sector in San Diego County.

The Workforce Partnership launched a new web experience to share research findings and resources. Research on the local retail sector includes cross-border purchasing and employment patterns, the impact of new minimum wage legislation, racial disparity in the sector and the future of retail jobs.

The website shares research findings through an interactive retail industry report, an audio-guided deep-dive into the sector, and findings from interviews with workers and retailers. The site also includes practical research tools the Workforce Partnership developed in the work.

Results of their research led the Workforce Partnership to reshape service delivery to workers and engagement strategies with retail businesses. Their experiences offer insights for workforce leaders around the country. To explore these new resources, visit workforce.org/research/retail.
