Monica is a procurement specialist on the compliance team. We asked her what she enjoys about workforce development and how she chooses to spend her time off.
What is a typical day like for you?
Every day for me, much like everyone else at Workforce, is very different. Although I am in the Compliance Team, I have the opportunity to work with IT, Finance and other department to assist with the procurements needed to complete their job administratively, technically or whatever else they need to engage with the community we serve.
What do you like best about working in workforce development?
I feel so fortunate to be able to have a holistic view of the company and all we provide for the community working in my role. Every department at the San Diego Workforce Partnership has a unique approach to help different populations within the community and I love being the middleperson to these aides. With every contract I read, purchase order I create and third-party interaction that I have, I get a sense of the niche communities that we serve, and it opens my eyes to the solutions we’re providing to problems I probably wouldn’t have been aware of if I didn’t work in my role. Personally, I am part of a great team and enjoy working with them every day.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I have family and friends from Baja California to Los Angeles, so you’ll see me driving up and down the coast visiting loved ones as much as possible or hosting them via San Diego Yelp recommendations. I like visiting coffee shops, running, reading novels and hanging out with my dog.
