On January 12, during his State of the city address, Mayor Kevin Faulconer reminded the community about the importance of youth employment, highlighting the achievements of CONNECT2Careers (C2C) and other partners working to bring opportunity to all young people in San Diego. “Thousands of San Diego youth — many from our lowest income neighborhoods — have found the keys to a brighter future,” said Faulconer, effectively setting the tone for C2C’s upcoming year as the team works to increase impact and reach.
In 2016, C2C exceeded its goal of placing 1,000 young people in paid work experiences and are working to set even more ambitious goals for 2017. To reach these goals, C2C relies heavily on support from employers and young-adult-serving agencies. Is your organization ready to get involved?
For community-based organizations (CBOs)
C2C’s Training team provides on-site work-readiness workshops throughout the county at no cost to partners. Request more information here. CBOs who serve youth are also invited to regional business service meetings where partners share resources and best practices to maximize reach across the county.
For employers
C2C is invaluable in that the program works equally to meet the need of young adults looking for work and employers looking for work-ready applicants. Employers have access to C2C’s job portal to post openings at no cost, which go out to 3,000+ jobs seekers registered for the program. C2C also acts as a no-cost recruitment agency, identifying pre-screened applicants matched to your requirements.
C2C’s Summer Kick-off Job and Resource Fair will take place on Wednesday, March 15 from 4–6 p.m. at the San Diego Downtown Public Library. CBOs will have an opportunity to share their programs with young adults and employers will have the opportunity to meet in person with a large pool of applicants to fill summer job openings. Employers who have already registered include Rubio’s, YMCA, Chipotle, SeaWorld, Starbucks and the San Diego Convention Center. C2C is still recruiting employers and agencies to participate. Interested organizations may register here.
