In September 2017, CONNECT2Careers (C2C) partnered with two elected officials to host job fairs in the respective areas they serve. These job fairs each had multiple employers and many job seekers in attendance, showing the positive impact that these partnerships have in the community.

On September 14, Councilmember Chris Cate, the City of San Diego’s Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention and C2C worked together to host a job fair at Mira Mesa High School, which presented an opportunity for C2C to provide more services in the area. With the collaboration amongst these partners, the job fair was a success with 14 employers and 45 job seekers in attendance. Councilmember Cate and C2C were excited to see how working together made an impact in District 6. “I was proud to collaborate with the San DIego Workforce Partnership and the San Diego Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention to host a fob fair at Mira Mesa High School,” says Cate. “Connecting young people in my district to job opportunities is a top priority and we will continue to work together to provide more opportunities like this throughout the year.”

A week later, on September 21, C2C partnered with State Assemblymember Shirley Weber and her office to host her second annual Youth Job Fair at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. The C2C team worked with Assemblymember Weber for the second year in a row on this highly-anticipated event. Sixteen employers were in attendance alongside 127 job seekers. The combined efforts of the Assemblymember and her office and C2C, along with those of the Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP), allowed the team to reach this large number of young people.

These partnerships have been beneficial, not only for C2C’s efforts, but for the community of San Diego more broadly as they have allowed reach to larger groups of job seekers through combined outreach efforts. C2C is looking forward to creating these types of partnerships for more job fairs in 2018. Stay tuned—follow C2C on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for the most up-to-date information.
