On August 26, Mayor Kevin Faulconer was joined by SDWP CEO Peter Callstrom and two CONNECT2Careers (C2C) interns, Pedro Gallardo and Loreal Cooper, for a round of morning show TV appearances:
- Students prepare to enter workforce, San Diego 6 the CW
- Mayor Kevin Faulconer – Monthly Meeting with the Mayor, KUSI (no link available)
- Mayor introduces new student program, Fox 5 San Diego
- Entrevista con el Alcalde Kevin Faulconer sobre ‘Connect2career’, Entravision
The segments included a very special announcement—C2C will now operate year-round. The need for employers and young adults C2C serves doesn’t end in the summer. Thanks to increased commitment from the City and County, C2C has the resources to continue job development throughout the year. Year-round services include partnerships with San Diego County Health and Human Services, San Diego YMCA and the San Diego County Office of Education to serve special populations, which include youth living below the poverty line, homeless youth and youth preparing to exit the juvenile justice system.
C2C received over 2,400 applications this summer and is on pace to place 500 of those young adults into jobs. But there is still work to do—the program’s greatest need is for more employers to offer young adults the opportunity to work and prove their value.
