The BIOCOM Institute, a nonprofit organization committed to connecting learning institutions with life science companies to advance scientific literacy, hired student intern Raymon Iu through CONNECT2Careers this summer.

Raymond was ecstatic to work for the BIOCOM Institute because his primary summer goal was to gain administrative skills and experience working in an office environment. So, it’s no surprise he enjoyed being around great people and working on a variety of projects. Raymond focused primarily on following up with program participants, creating and managing the BIOCOM blog page, and working on a research project.

Raymond’s mentor, Marketing Coordinator Wendela Heering, was very impressed with how quickly Raymond hit the ground running with his new skills. Wendela also commented on how relaxed Raymond became after the first day and how his positive attitude contributed to his overall engagement in the workplace. “He was a huge help around the office. He’s even starting a BIOCOM website!” Wendela shared.

Raymond’s summer internship has shape him in a multitude of ways. He comments, “I didn’t know if I would get chosen by a company to work this summer but I am so happy BIOCOM chose me and thankful it all worked out.” Raymond discovered through his internship that he thrives in an office environment. Two of his future goals are to interact with a variety of people on a regular basis and get involved by serving the community.
