What do you like best about working in workforce development?

I enjoy working in workforce development because I believe that doing meaningful work is a big part of living a meaningful life. It’s rewarding for me to devote my time to making meaningful work more accessible for everyone. I particularly like that I get to impact young people and students in my work. I remember growing up and being so afraid of making the “wrong choice” when it was time to choose my career and I’m glad I get to be a voice telling young people that a “career” is an evolving idea rooted in who they are and may evolve with who they will become.

What is a typical day like for you?

My days vary a lot, which is great because variety is important to me. Some days I’m like most office workers, working on my computer, attending meetings and making plans for projects to come. On other days I get to visit schools, community organizations and other partners to learn about their work and find ways that we can collaborate to bring career exploration to more young people.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Taking care of plants is my longstanding hobby. I love them as a decorative element – they make any space feel more alive. I love all plants, but my favorites are ones that dangle like philodendron and string of pearls. I recently took up knitting. So far, I’ve knitted five sweaters for myself and my friends. I’m currently working on a vest for my cat and a throw pillow cover. I also love traveling and look forward to getting back to it after a quiet few years.
