The San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) has been named a High-Performance Local Board by the California Workforce Investment Board. A certification of “High-Performance” requires the Local Workforce Investment Board to exceed the minimum requirements set for all California workforce investment boards and to demonstrate implementation of the Governor’s workforce development plan. Of the 49 workforce investment boards in California, 25 received this designation.
The certification is determined through a review process that assesses the boards against five standards:
- Vision, economic and workforce analysis, strategic planning and implementation
- Business service plan, partnerships and sector strategies
- Adult investments in training, skills development and career pathways
- Comprehensive youth development strategy
- Administration of the local board
“Being designated a high-performance board enables us to be even more competitive when seeking other funds from state and federal funders, allowing us to have even more impact on individuals, families, and communities here in San Diego,” says Peter Callstrom, SDWP CEO. “To hit all of these categories requires a well coordinated effort from everyone: board and committee leadership and our internal staff. Everyone played a key part in making this vital designation possible.”
The California Workforce Investment Board is responsible for assisting the Governor in performing the duties and responsibilities required by the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998, including setting and guiding policy in the area of workforce development. The statewide workforce investment system is comprised of 49 Local Workforce Investment Areas, each with its own business-led Local Workforce Investment Board. SDWP is the local board for San Diego County.
