To build a more equitable regional workforce and support those often excluded from opportunity, the San Diego Workforce Partnership and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community Colleges have partnered to expand access to quality jobs for workers—especially Black, Indigenous and workers of color underrepresented and undervalued in the workforce.

About the partners

The Workforce Partnership connects more than 6,000 clients each year with upwards of $4.6 million worth of training and services. Within San Diego County, the Workforce Partnership’s six career centers provide comprehensive job search and career development resources to all San Diego County job seekers, regardless of income or background. Within the ten regional community colleges, career centers offer world-class support to current students at each college.

In 2021, the Workforce Partnership and the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) formed a Joint Partnership Committee to strengthen partnership opportunities and provide a formalized structure to support college-specific and districtwide collaborations across the Workforce Partnership, focused in three primary areas: referrals and recruitment, programs and processes, and job placement and employability. Current priority projects include exploration of co-located services, community engagement and outreach, and data engagement. This committee meets monthly. Learn more about the Joint Partnership Committee.

The Workforce Partnership works closely with the ten regional community colleges that make up the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community Colleges, including Cuyamaca College, Grossmont College, Imperial Valley College, MiraCosta College, Palomar College, San Diego City College, San Diego College of Continuing Education, San Diego Mesa College, San Diego Miramar College and Southwestern College. At each of these institutions, students have access to world-class degree programs, career technical education and campus career centers. Together, the Workforce Partnership and the regional community colleges produce and deliver programs, research and resources for job seekers, educators and students. To view and sign up for upcoming collaborative events, visit our events calendar.

SDCCD includes San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, San Diego Miramar College and the San Diego College of Continuing Education. These institutions serve nearly 100,000 students each year. In addition to traditional transfer pathways, the SDCCD colleges provide over 300 career education certificate and degree programs, and one baccalaureate program. These career education programs provide hands-on training, while building the comprehensive skillsets needed for success in the jobs of today and well into the future. Informed by industry advisory committees, the SDCCD career education programs are designed to meet regional workforce needs, develop talent pipelines and improve student employment outcomes. Each College also provides career services, work-based learning opportunities and job placement support for students across all program areas.

Research collaborations

San Diego Workforce Partnership analyzes workforce trends, in-demand jobs, career pathways, high-growth sectors and economic inequality to help job seekers chart their career paths, businesses attract and retain talent, and to inform community leaders’ planning and investment strategies to build an inclusive, prosperous regional economy. Together with the Center of Excellence (COE) and Regional Consortium for the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community Colleges, Workforce Partnership researchers have analyzed similar labor market trends, equity in jobs and academic programs, and what the colleges can do to better support Black students.
