Escondido Adult School

  • Prepare for a career as a technician in a retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy or other locations.
  • The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, maintaining client records, and referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling assistance.
  • A pharmacy technician is a health care provider who performs pharmacy-related functions, generally working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • A certificate of completion and a list of competencies is awarded upon successful completion of the requirements for this course. Students can participate in an externship of 120 hours.
  • A High School Diploma or Equivalency is required to enroll in this program.
  • 189 hours/21 weeks 

Grossmont Adult Education

In this program, you will learn how to prepare prescription medications in the classroom, in a pharmacy skills lab and as part of a 160-hour externship placement at a local pharmacy. Students that complete the program will receive certification to work as pharmacy technicians in the state of California. During the program, students will also take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) CPhT exam to receive national certification.
