Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of data can I request?

There are currently four types of data you can request through the form:

  • Occupation/Industry
    • Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes are used to pull occupational data. If you need help finding specific SOC codes for your request, please refer to O*NET.
    • NAICS codes are used to pull industry-related data. If you need help finding specific NAICS codes for your request, please refer to
  • Employment/unemployment statistics
  • Online job postings
  • Demographics

How long will it take to receive my data?

Once we have confirmed the details of your request, it will usually take 7–10 business days to complete. If we need additional information, we will contact you by email. The time you take to provide additional information will add to the total time it takes to respond to your request.

Why might you need additional information?

Sometimes the nature of the request can be too broad. To provide the most relevant data for your request, we sometimes ask for additional details (dates, zip codes of interest, etc.) to narrow the scope. We may be unable to proceed with a data request until this information has been provided.

In what format will my request be emailed?

We use whatever format is most appropriate for your request. This may be in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, .csv or .pdf. If you are looking for a specific format, please specify this in the request form. Our ability to provide data in certain formats may be limited by the sources we use.

How much does a research request cost?

The cost for each request is dependent on the complexity and time needed to complete it. Because we are a small team with limited bandwidth, we may provide a quote with a nominal fee to cover our costs.

If I’m from a university or a nonprofit, can I get a fee waiver?

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to offer fee waivers at this time.

My request doesn’t match an option in the request form. What should I do?

You may email us at with other types of requests. We may refer you to another organization or data source, or we may provide you with a quote for expanded research services.
