Xavier Martinez is a business partnerships specialist at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. Here he tells a little bit about himself, both personally and professionally.

What is a typical day like for you?Headshot

A typical day begins with a run (mostly walk) as I listen to Audible on the beach followed by a coffee or tea. I make sure the kids are all set for their morning distance learning classes and link up with my team in our daily stand up to share out our daily focus. I try and take on the biggest challenge of the day first as recommended by Brian Tracy in “Eat That Frog” (highly recommended read).

What do you like best about working in workforce development?

I enjoy the impact we can make in the lives of the clients we serve. By learning and listening with sincere interest from the business owner about why they got into business or the employee who wants to impact their community, we get to share a little in the slight moves that make big impacts in the lives of those who need wins right now.

I am new to San Diego and working in workforce development is the best way to see the brightest side of this city. At our core, we are a city that is hopeful, talented and excited to be more. I like best working with those that aspire to be the best version of themselves because it motivates me to be the best version of myself.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

When I am not working I enjoy exploring with my daughters, wife and dog. I also enjoy being creative, active and engaged in living a full life. I express myself creatively through digital art, storytelling, programming and game design. I enjoy positive conversations and playing games with friends and family.
