Kimberly is a program specialist who leads our Older Adult Workforce program. In this piece, she shares her proudest professional moment, what she enjoys most about workforce development and how she spends her time off.
What professional moment or project are you most proud of?
The Older Adult Workforce Program (OAW) originated from a simple idea, and I have developed it into what it is today. All participants in OAW are heard and seen, a level of attention they did not receive from other employment programs. OAW is unique in that it provides individualized support and services to every participant who joins. We utilize the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported employment to meet participants where they are, helping them achieve their employment goals.
What do you like best about working in workforce development?
It is a true honor to work with participants aged 55 and older, as this age group is often overlooked and faces more discrimination in the workplace than any other demographic. I have been given the freedom to create and manage the OAW program, ensuring that every participant feels heard and supported in achieving their vocational goals. Watching each participant’s personal growth has been incredibly rewarding and life-changing.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I try to spend as much time as possible with my three grandkids; there’s nothing better than hearing them laugh with joy. I also enjoy cooking, trying new recipes, entertaining family and friends, attending church, and listening to music. I would love to travel more, as there are so many amazing places to see.
