With roughly 600,000 unfilled manufacturing job openings in the United States employers are demanding highly skilled workers in order to meet their needs. A few prominent organizations in San Diego are actively searching for qualified people as well.

In collaboration with the East County Economic Development Council (ECEDC), Quality Controlled Manufacturing Inc. and Taylor Guitars, more than 60 veterans and job seekers were hosted for a manufacturing tour this past month.

The group toured QCMI and Taylor Guitars; both companies are some of the fastest growing manufacturers in San Diego. According to an article posted on Digital Journal, “At each facility, key executives explained in detail the production processes. Attendees saw skilled employees working in clean, modern plants using computer skills on high-tech equipment”. The tour was followed by a panel of industry experts who explained manufacturing career opportunities and answered questions.

The Manufacturers Tour and Panel is part of the Careers in Manufacturing series, developed to educate veterans and out-of-work adults about the range of career opportunities in the manufacturing sector. The ECEDC has plans for two additional tours this year. Read more about this exciting event
