The United States Conference of Mayors is hosting the annual Workforce development Council (WDC) Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., on January 22-23, 2014.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors takes the lead in bringing national attention to the challenges and potential of urban America, particularly in areas relating to employment and training and workforce development.

The WDC provides a forum for mayors and workforce leaders to examine workforce development issues and to strengthen the ability of cities to meet the needs of their citizens; particularly economically disadvantaged individuals, those with serious skill deficiencies, dislocated workers, and others with special barriers to employment, including youth.

Peter Callstrom, SDWP’s CEO, was elected to the Board of the WDC in 2013. He, along with 50 other workforce development leaders from around the country convene quarterly to share best practices, ideas, challenges, and solutions. This national forum is a great opportunity to ensure that our region remains cutting edge in our workforce efforts.
