A note of gratitude on this Labor Day.
To all of the hard working men and women in our communities, including job seekers who are actively looking for their next role, those who are in training programs seeking education that will advance their careers, youth who are completing their first summer jobs, and local businesses that are hiring and training our regional workforce, on behalf of the San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) we honor you on this Labor Day.
Today in San Diego County, our unemployment rate is far from great – 7.8%. We are on a road to economic recovery but we still have a long way to go before everyone who is willing to work is able to work. People need jobs; meaningful employment that pays a sustainable wage in order to support their families, loved ones and future endeavors.
Through training programs for adults and career pathway curriculum for youth, SDWP funds a variety of courses in San Diego that get people back to work. Thanks to the critical funding from the Department of Labor we are able to provide retraining opportunities for individuals, preparing them for their next career.
If you know someone who is out of work, and most of us do, the Career Center Network and our funded partners are an invaluable community resource for job seekers. Pass along our website, workforce.org as a resource for more information.
Finally, I want to take the opportunity to acknowledge each and every funded partner, board member, community associate and colleague for the work they are doing to equip our fellow community members for meaningful work. Making an impact in our region is not possible without their tireless commitment and service. We cannot thank you enough!
Have a safe and happy Labor Day.
Sincerely,
Peter Callstrom
