The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a significant impact on our region’s workforce, resulting in many layoffs and/ furloughs. To ensure that those affected have the resources they need during quarantine, the San Diego Workforce Partnership pivoted its services to a fully virtual platform.

All resources are available online, with some available via phone as well. San Diego County residents are encouraged to access services at no cost to support their job search and desire for training.

Resources

Chatbot

Virtual agent on the Workforce Partnership website that serves as a personalized directory with live hand-off for job seekers, employers and partners. In addition, the chatbot is able to respond to questions via SMS by texting (619) 319-WORK(9675). Made possible by Microsoft and Lumina Foundation.

On-demand training

Curated collection of professional and occupation-specific skills training resources for in-demand jobs, including a portal from Microsoft that provides training pathways in top in-demand jobs nationwide, which all pay a livable wage and require skills that can be learned online.

Career centers

Offers job search and career development resources, such as training through email, phone and video conferencing.

Events and workshops

Allows people to take advantage of professional development through features like mock interviews, resume reviews and workshops on many career topics.

Career Portal

Connects job seekers with many openings and a career coach to support throughout the search and application process.

“I’m proud of how our team has innovated to support our community in a virtual service environment. Shifting our trainings and resources online means that we are able to reach our region’s workforce even more efficiently,” says Peter Callstrom, CEO of the San Diego Workforce Partnership.

This innovation has been made possible thanks to deep relationships with Microsoft and Lumina Foundation. Microsoft has provided technical expertise, monetary support and many hours of volunteer time to create a chatbot that responds to common questions and quickly links people to the resources that they are looking for. Lumina Foundation provided funding to support the bot, as well as for other tech capabilities like digital signatures and computers for opportunity youth.
