The City of San Diego, Council District 5, represented by Councilmember Mark Kersey, has brought on a recent high school graduate, Catriona Lewis, to intern this summer through the CONNECT2careers youth employment program.

Catriona is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to be a Community Outreach Intern for Outreach Assistant,  Mayra Vasquez. Coming from a family of physicians,  this internship has exposed Catriona to the political issues within her community and just may have piqued her interest in pursuing the field.

Furthermore, Catriona has gained a great boost of self confidence from her job experience this summer. She admits, “I am very shy [and] this job has helped me because I have to constantly make phone calls to people I don’t know and speak with them in a professional manner.” This excellent opportunity with the City of San Diego has not only helped shape Catriona’s aspirations, but her character as well.

The City of San Diego –Council District 5 has invested in San Diego’s youth and acknowledges the importance of gaining the experience necessary to succeed in the real world. Through the Connect2Careers initiative, numerous other San Diego institutions have acknowledged this mutual prosperity between both the employer and the intern.
