It was a great day to look for a job in San Diego County on September 19. With a gorgeous view of downtown San Diego, the San Diego Workforce Partnership’s career center network hosted its 3rd annual Job-I-Con Hiring Fair at the downtown San Diego Central Library.
Over 200 job seekers connected with more than 30 employers, including Geico, San Diego Youth Services, Arc of San Diego, Accent Care, Hilton and more. Employers shared job opportunities, collected applications and interviewed job seekers, with some offering jobs on the spot.
“This was one of the best hiring events I’ve been to,” said Ty Taylor, senior recruiter at Kelly Staffing Services. “Not only did I meet highly qualified candidates, I will be onboarding five hires and interviewing at least 20 candidates for next week.”
Career center staff enjoyed seeing familiar faces from their workshops putting their new skills into action. “This fair was a great way for job seekers to practice their ‘30 second personal commercial,’” shared Workshop Facilitator Anna Guadarrama. “It was exciting to observe the participants applying what they learned in the workshops at the job fair.”
And those new skills paid off. One job seeker named Roberto interviewed with Volt and was immediately offered a position and asked to begin work the next day. Other hardworking job seekers landed interviews with companies like CALPIA, who also did live scanning on site to expedite the hiring process.
“I wanted to deeply thank you for organizing this job fair event on September 19!” shared one job seeker via email following the event. “It was by far the best job fair I have been to since I have been attending them around San Diego in the last 4 months…Keep up the great work! If you are planning another one in the future, please put my name on the list to receive emails about it. Thank you again. You did a great job!”
