On February 17, SeaWorld welcomed business service representatives from 15 nonprofit agencies in partnership with CONNECT2Careers (C2C) for an employer social. The session provided deeper information about SeaWorld’s hiring process so community partners are better equipped to prepare individuals to apply at SeaWorld. Following the information session, SeaWorld employees gave the group a tour of the park, which highlighted the diverse opportunities available at SeaWorld and gave the business service representatives a chance to ask questions about specific positions.
The session allowed C2C and partners to better understand the application and interview process. In turn, the information helps youth-serving agencies provide SeaWorld with screened employment candidates who are ready and enthusiastic to work at the park. Tisha Tumangan, Senior Human Resources Representative at SeaWorld, acknowledges the benefit, saying, “I think the opportunity to come together with everyone in person is very valuable because every [agency] knows the participants they work with the most.” She added that the session gave them access to candidates they may have had more difficulty reaching without the help of community partners.
This is just one example of SeaWorld’s expansive partnership with C2C. In 2016, the park hired 46 C2C participants. SeaWorld also participated in a panel at C2C’s 2016 Summer-end Celebration, with representatives speaking directly to attendees about the success they have had with the partnership. The park has also attended numerous C2C job fairs and will be participating in C2C’s 2017 Kick-off Job and Resource Fair on Wednesday, March 15. This event will take place from 4–6 p.m. at the San Diego Downtown Public Library and will allow employment representatives from SeaWorld and other companies to connect with young adults seeking job opportunities.
SeaWorld has been an instrumental partner since C2C began, a partnership that has proven valuable to SeaWorld as well. “You guys are our best partner,” says Tumangan. C2C looks forward to continuing this success with SeaWorld and using the relationship as a blueprint for serving other San Diego employers.
