Kim Nguy is Payroll/Contract Invoice Specialist at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. She just celebrated her 40th anniversary with the organization. Here she describes her role, discusses what she likes best about working in workforce development and shares one of her proudest professional moments.

Tell us about your role at SDWP.

My role involves three main things:

  • Reviewing contractors’ invoices for accuracy so that we can reimburse for their client services.
  • Reviewing vendor benefit invoices (medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, Long-Term Disability and Colonial Life) for accuracy so that we can pay them.
  • Accurately processing staff payroll biweekly.

What do you like best about working in workforce development?

It is a meaningful job. We are able to help people get into training they desire and to see people get jobs. Everything that happens here, from people working outside the office, to the less visible work being done in my department, helps reach that goal.

What professional moment or project are you most proud of?
I am proud of being able to prepare staff’s paychecks in a detailed and timely manner. I have been doing this job for a long time and still enjoy working here very much.
