Cord Bailey is Director of Youth programs at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. Here he describes his role, discusses what he likes best about working in workforce development and shares one of his proudest professional moments.

Tell us about your role at SDWP.

I serve as the Director of Youth Programs at SDWP. My role is to support staff in carrying out the organization’s mission, interface with the community to inform program design, and set the vision, with guidance from both staff and community, for how we can best impact the lives of San Diego youth.

What do you like best about working in workforce development?

The one thing I appreciate most about working at SDWP is being surrounded by colleagues that are passionate about their work and are committed to service. The great thing about our industry is that it affords us plenty of opportunities to touch individuals in positive ways, whether it’s assisting a young person with securing their first job, or providing the impetus or resources for someone to further their education.

What professional moment or project are you most proud of?

There is no one moment or project I’m most proud of. Rather, I’m constantly amazed at how well the youth team pulls together to coordinate and deliver various community events like the job and resource fair at the Downtown Library last August, or a CalJOBS training for WIOA providers.
