Ernesto Rivera is a Youth Programs Coordinator with the CONNECT2Careers team at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. Here he tells a little bit about himself.
What is a typical day like for you?
Hectic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. As part of the Business Services Team for CONNECT2Careers, I am tasked with establishing relationships with employers to create job opportunities for our participants. So, a typical day sometimes means meeting with employers across the county, hosting job fairs or recruitment events, collaborating with many of our amazing partners and referring CONNECT2Careers participants to employers for job opportunities.
What professional moment or project are you most proud of?
One of the things I’m proud of is being able to form strong working relationships with our WIOA youth providers across the county. We have great partners that offer amazing employment services to the youth they serve, so being able to support them in those efforts by providing additional job opportunities, connections with employers and hiring events is something I really enjoy.
What do you like best about working in workforce development?
Connecting people with people. I have the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people that do different things throughout different sectors. Whether it’s employers, nonprofit organizations or schools, I take real joy in introducing and connecting people with others they might be able to form relationships with and strengthen their cause. It might be job seekers to job opportunities, partners to employers or agencies that serve similar populations. I enjoy being a resource for the youth, partners and employers we serve.
