Each year the Passport to Life Career and Education Expo serves youth who are or have been on probation. The goal is to provide these young men and women with ideas, tools, motivation, encouragement and hope for their future. On August 8, more than 800 youth gathered at San Diego City College to utillize resources to help them successfully transition out of the judicial system. The event included words from two keynote speakers, workshops and a resource fair designed to show youth their ability to succeed through the right programs, training and support.
After hearing from keynote speakers in an opening session, participants had an opportunity to attend workshops covering a variety of topics including overcoming barriers, continuing education, and financial literacy. During lunch youth put on a “Dress for Success” fashion show offering ideas and tips to make their appearance give a great first impression. The day concluded with a resource fair where more than 75 exhibitors representing basic education, transition programs, and viable career paths were on site to discuss opportunities with the young adults.
The Passport to Life Career and Education Expo was presented by the San Diego Workforce Partnership; San Diego Superior Court, Juvenile Division; San Diego County Probation Department; San Diego County Office of Education, Juvenile Court and Community Schools; San Diego City College; San Diego County District Attorney’s Office; San Diego County Public Defender’s Office and Off the Street.
