With the summer fast approaching, Mayor Bob Filner and Council President Pro Tem Sherri Lightner held a Summit and Business Roundtable to promote Youth Summer Jobs and challenged the local business community to participate in CONNECT2Careers San Diego (C2C-SD).

C2C-SD is designed to address San Diego’s ongoing jobs skills gap and provide meaningful work experiences to prepare San Diego’s young adults (ages 16 to 21) as they enter the workforce.

Council President Pro Tem Sherri Lightner, a champion of the program, said, “Companies should feel confident that they will be hiring the very best that San Diego has to offer and that these young adults will bring both new energy and new ideas to the workplace. In turn, our young adults will be introduced into the world of work, preparing them for meaningful careers and boosting their confidence and competency along the way.”

The business community heard Mayor Filner’s challenge loud and clear. Since the event, 20 additional businesses have shown interest in hiring through C2C-SD, bringing the number of employers to 73!
