Last month Manpower San Diego President and CEO Phil Blair presented his book “Job Won! 500,000 Hires and Counting” to America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) managers and staff from across the region,
highlighting how the book can act as a resource when working with job seekers at the career centers.

Through his position at Manpower, a human resources consulting firm, Blair has unique insight into employment and staffing issues. His book delves into what impresses HR managers, covering résumés, hard and soft skills, how to dress for success, email and phone etiquette, professional communication and other workplace issues.
When speaking to the career center staff, Blair asked “Why in the HR world do we keep secrets from the people about what we are looking for?” Blair explained how the book could aid career center staff by helping job seekers be better prepared for their one-on-one meetings with counselors. He added that even after securing employment, the book is a resource that career center clients can use for years as they navigate various aspects of employment, such as asking for a raise or transitioning to a new job within their company.
SDWP President and CEO Peter Callstrom says the information session brought to light the frustrations that many job seekers face in being competitive in today’s challenging labor market, and provided innovative strategies to best address and overcome these frustrations. “Phil did an excellent job of describing how the strategies and activities in the book could better encourage job seekers to think outside the box in their approach to finding a job,” he says. “SDWP is excited to provide copies of ‘Job Won!’ to the AJCC network, which I know will bring great value to job seekers across San Diego.”
