On April 28, San Diego Grantmakers and San Diego Impact Investors hosted their inaugural Deal Flow event. Deal Flow is part of a goal to activate $100 million in new impact investments in our region by 2025. Impact investing is a chance to blend philanthropy and investing by supporting endeavors that generate positive social or environmental outcomes and financial returns, and it has the potential to exponentially increase the number of people using their capital for good.recipient of federal funding through Third Sector Capital Partners, for technical assistance to assess the feasibility of implementing Pay for Performance (P4P) endeavors that improve education, employment and recidivism outcomes for youth in San Diego’s juvenile justice system. As a result, SDWP is exploring program and investment opportunities in these issue areas that could become P4P projects and eligible for repayment with designated state funds through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Hall noted that future investors can expect up to a 8-15% ROI for projects like these.
The room was filled with a blend of backgrounds and interests that reinforced the notion that “community capital” — not grants and loans and investments, but capital that helps us all reach personal and societal goals — has a bright path forward in San Diego.
