Tina Ngo Bartel presents at HHRA event

On August 1, the San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) business services team shared about SDWP’s various business programs to members of the Hospitality Human Resources Association (HHRA). Thirty-seven individuals attended the event, held at the Embassy Suites San Diego Bay Downtown.

  1. Training and wage subsidy programs (On-the-Job Training, Customized Training, Expanded Subsidized Employment)
  2. Internships and summer employment (C2C, TechHire internships)
  3. Coordinated events (customized recruitments, Hiring at Happy Hour, Rapid Response, Supported Employment)

One to two SDWP staff stayed at each table, where 10–15 attendees listened and asked questions about their topics for 20 minutes and then, at the sound of the bell, moved to the next table.

“[The event was] quite informative and I am surprised I hadn’t known about your program all this time,” said the U.S. Grant Hotel’s Director of Human Resources Greg Alberto.

Anaid Northcraft from Welk Resorts San Diego also mentioned she was very surprised to hear about SDWP’s range of services. She is keen on the idea of customized training but is hoping to get their training programs set up first so that they can take advantage of it in the future.

“The services SDWP offer are San Diego’s best kept secret,” said Business Services Representative Angel Stancer. “But it’s time to get the word out! This event was a great way to reach many HR professionals at once, and keep the vibe fun and interesting with the speed dating format.”

“We work with SDWP in three different programs and we’ve received funds,” said the San Diego Zoo’s Director of Human Resources Adriana Martinez. “This has been a very good opportunity for us.”

There was a lot of active conversation around the topic at each table. Participants stayed and continued the conversation even after the event ended.
