As the economy improves, the employment outlook becomes increasingly positive in San Diego County. The following figure compares the number of job postings to the number of people unemployed in the region. It suggests that if every job ad were filled, the unemployment gap would close. Keep in mind, though, that these numbers only reflect online job postings. There are plenty of companies that do not put job ads online as part of their recruitment process.

Hot Job Highlight: Financial Services
According to the San Diego Business Journal (SDBJ) article, “Accounting and Finance Jobs in Demand as Economy Rebounds,” companies are growing and investing more in a skilled workforce. Within the past year, Eastridge Group of Staffing Cos. has seen a 37 percent increase in the number of accounting-related job placements. Employers are fighting for the best accounting college graduates as a third of the candidates receive multiple offers and counteroffers. New grads earn an average of $50,000 starting off, and those with five to six years of experience in public accounting earn about $85,000 to $95,000 a year. The demand for skilled accounting and finance applicants has increased so much that employers are now looking outside of the region to fill these positions.
