Two SDWP-funded programs—CONNECT2Careers (C2C) and the Life Science Summer Institute (LSSI)—are participating in the San Diego Foundation’s giveBIG online networking and giving event on May 6. The giveBIG event offers nonprofit organizations like the SDWP the opportunity to gain exposure to and start relationships with new donors, and for people in the San Diego region to come together to raise money for local nonprofits in a time-sensitive period.
The public will be able to make donations to C2C or LSSI on the giveBIG website on Tuesday, May 6, from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. PST. Donors chose their donation amount, with a minimum gift starting at $25. The Foundation and other sponsors have committed $150,000 to incentivize giving during this event, so that nonprofits will receive a proportion of this pool based on how much money they raise during the event. For example, if an organization raises 5 percent of the total amount raised during the event, they will receive 5 percent of the incentive pool.
The San Diego Foundation’s giveBIG 2014 event will be taking place in conjunction with the larger national day-of-giving event, Give Local America, which is also taking place on May 6.
In December 2011, the San Diego Foundation hosted its first giveBIG event, and helped 315 local nonprofits raise $2,109,640 in 36-hours.
