LSSI is currently ramping up for its summer program. Now in its 9th year, LSSI continues to focus on creating hands-on research work experiences for high school students interested in the biotechnology sector.

To be considered for the program, students were required to complete an extensive application process which included letters of recommendation and a personal essay highlighting their goals and research interests. Students have already completed a year of biology and chemistry, and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

Participating interns are enrolled at either Miramar College or Grossmont College, and earn college credit while receiving pre-training in laboratory skills and safety practices, along with work readiness. After the training June 17-21, students will begin their full time paid research internships on June 24.

Employers, if you are interested in hiring a motivated LSSI intern, please contact Erika Arangure, Erika@workforce.org or 619.228.2920.

Thank you to our long standing partners Southern California Biotechnology Center, The Scripps Research Institute, Salk Institute, and UCSD organizations who have already committed to taking interns this summer.
