February 16, 2018

On February 15, the San Diego Workforce Partnership’s CONNECT2Careers (C2C) program received a proclamation from the city council declaring February 15, 2018 “CONNECT2Careers Day” in the city of San Diego. Councilmember Barbara Bry presented the proclamation during SDWP’s Workforce Development Board meeting. C2C is recognized for serving and providing workforce solutions to thousands of young adults each year. The program provides in-person training opportunities so young people can build their résumés, prepare for interviews, learn about San Diego County’s local labor market and connect to local employers.

“CONNECT2Careers makes it easy for companies to choose to have internships” said Bry during the meeting.

In addition, C2C STEAM makes it a priority to develop pipelines for young adults to obtain the education and work experience necessary to enter and succeed in San Diego’s priority sectors. One such program, the Life Sciences Summer Institute nourishes a passion for science and math in San Diego’s next generation of scientists through paid internships with top life sciences companies.

Bry expressed her support for STEAM efforts like C2C’s in an article highlighting the councilmember’s priorities for 2018, saying, “I’m also going to focus on STEAM efforts by encouraging companies to offer internships for high school and college students. As a councilmember, you sit on outside boards, so I sit on the San Diego Workforce Partnership…and they have great internship programs. That’s going to be key in developing the workforce of the future.”
