The San Diego Monthly Employment Report (December 2015 to January 2016) shows decreases in the civilian unemployment rate, labor force and employment.

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 0.1 percent decrease in San Diego’s unemployment rate, from a revised 4.8 percent in December to 4.7 percent in January, which falls below the year-ago estimate of 5.9 percent.

Manufacturing recorded a month-over job gain of 300 jobs. All other industries recorded month-over job losses. Trade, Transportation & Utilities had the greatest decline in jobs (down 9,000 jobs), mainly from Retail Trade (down 8,900 jobs).

From January 2015 to January 2016, all industries except Information and Other Services experienced job growth. Professional & Business Services had the greatest year-over gain, adding 8,200 jobs to the region. Educational & Health Services added 7,300 jobs.

Though San Diego County recorded month-over job losses in all but one industry, year-over employment gains in all but two industries continue to be a positive indicator for the county.
